  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Mwelt -- Eye opening : I was in awe of this woman's courage, resilience, and love for her family. You hear about mental illnesses, but this takes it to another level. She was raw, open and didnt hold anything back. My heart broke for some of the situations they had to walk through, however, their journey does not go unnoticed. My prayers for this family is that they stay in unity during whatever storm comes their way. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from gator.carol -- I promise you will be moved : This book is a beautifully and lovingly written account of the family's struggle to find help and make the right decisions for their young son with severe mental illness. You will fall in love with Nicholas as he is seen through his family's eyes and be troubled by the frustrations and loneliness the family experience in trying to navigate our severely deficient mental health care system. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from MSarver -- Tugged at my heart : What an incredible resource you have provided Steph! Reliving the struggles and emotional roller coaster you have been on, moved me to tears. Your families advocacy for Nicholas is unmatched and will truly provide support for those in need. Thank you for being so honest and raw in your storytelling. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 26, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Anonymous -- Powerful : Although I’m not a parent, I do have family members who have children that are living with mental health issues. The story of Nicholas told by Stephanie is raw and powerful and full of emotion. Several times I felt anger as Stephanie searched for answers and admiration at the way she and her family loved their son unconditionally. I was unable to put this book down and have been recommending it to everyone I talk too. Amazing writing and so easy to follow. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Jared -- Eye opening read : This book was very eye opening for me. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Barbara Nashwinter -- Eye opening perspective on a family’s efforts to support their son : Hats off to Stephanie on her willingness share her family’s journey to support their son in good times and bad. After reading this my eyes are open to how limited access is to mental health resources! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from RobynHTV -- A must-read — for ALL parents : This touching personal story is so engaging, heartbreaking, and beautiful, but it's much more than a story. It's also an incredibly valuable resource for parents of kids with mental illness, who've experienced trauma, or have other special needs. If you've ever struggled to find the care your family needs, fought through red tape to get services you're entitled to (or even to find out those services exist), navigated our healthcare system for your child, or wondered how you were ever going to find the strength to take the next step - this is the resource you've been looking for. If you're lucky enough never to have to deal with issues like those, this is still an important must-read to better understand what's broken in our system and how to better support fellow parents. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from S. Fleet -- A raw, real journey, incredibly well-written! : I got an ARC of this book from Stephanie but I will buy copies to give to so many people. I have not been through the kinds of issues and systems Steph has had to navigate yet I found her story thoroughly engaging from the first sentence and impossible to put down. I do believe this can be an incredible resource for people struggling with our mental health system as well as the extremely important task of showing people they are not alone in this. I hope it's an agent for change. I also know that you will enjoy this book from start to finish even if the primary issues of the story are not yours. Ultimately it's about a fierce adoptive mom whose love and determination never wane in the face of incredible adversity. Ultimately, it's just an incredible book that rises above genre. Get it!
