:- 2.0 out of 5 stars from John F. Zur -- Cocky and Whiny ... poor Little Steven : ** spoiler alert ** I’ve been attending Springsteen and the E Street Band concerts since 1975. I haven’t missed one tour. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from S. Essick -- What A Life ! : Music memoirs are a dime a dozen but Stevie Van Zandt’s new entry, #Unrequited Infatuations, is worth a million bucks. for, if nothing else, a glimpse of his raw enthusiasm. Van Zandt, first known as Bruce Springsteen’s Underboss Guitarist in The E Street Band, tells his tales of life in the music business, life as an actor, and life as a renowned activist with refreshing candor and honesty. But more than anything his true love of the music from the 50’s and 60’s shines through as we are given an insider’s view of this music, yesterday, today and tomorrow. The book had particular relevance for me because Van Zandt and I are roughly the same age and new music was tantamount to both our lives, but where he pursued it by being in a band, I couldn’t hold a beat if my life depended on it and therefore was co-owner of Toledo’s only independent record store from 1973 until 2004. Also , I was fortunate enough to attend TheE Street Band show in Akron 8/8/75 which I believe was the final show before their 5 night New York Bottom Line run, which is discussed in the book. And if his music stories weren’t enough, we’re treated to anecdotes about Stevie’s acting career ( The Sopranos, Lilyhammer ) and inside peaks of the many causes he gives his time and money to. And, the book is told with a charming swagger and bravado, which fits perfectly with the narrative of the tale. All in all, #Unrequited Infatuations is a splendid book and as a bonus, after reading it you’ll feel 20 years younger ! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from headbutler -- Everything here is News, starting with "I ran out of money every year for the last thirty years." : “February 8, 1964, there was not one single rock ‘n’ roll band in the country,” Stevie Van Zandt writes in his memoir. “February 9, the Beatles played The Ed Sullivan Show. “Goodbye school, grades, any thoughts of college, straight jobs, family unity and American monoculture.” ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Stevie Van Zandt book. : Covers his early years in New Jersey, with Bruce and E Street Band, on his own, the Soprano years and the return to Bruce and the E Street Band! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Liz -- Ego Gone Wild! : Agree with others who are not thrilled with this book. I have been a Bruce fan since 1975 and was hoping for more in depth view of those early years in the band. Hoped for peak into playing Asbury back in the day and ultimate rise to greatest live band in rock n roll. Instead I got page after page of self aggrandizement and over inflated ego. Wished I'd skipped it! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Robert ‘Bob’ Macespera -- Very good, and yet... : Yep, that's me with the man, in Dublin some years ago. He was doing a radio thing for his underground garage series. I was passing and he was getting into his hotel. I stopped him, he was very polite. "Thank you for all that music", I said (or something like that). "Thank you", he said smiling. Some other guys spotted him and started to surround us. I said something like "keep on rocking" and motioned to shake hands and leave. He smiled again. It was the smile he's surely done a million times to followers: tired but sincere. My girlfriend called me. We both looked at the camera and she snapped for posterity. - 3.0 out of 5 stars from JOHN ROBERT GREEN -- Rather tails off into endless name-dropping : Stevie Van Zandt's book starts off well, and he's obviously a highly driven and direct character, and comes over as likeable. However, for me the book lost something (as did Stevie!) when he left the E Street band in 1984 to pursue other interests (a move you feel he secretly regrets). - 5.0 out of 5 stars from No1Bruce fan -- Brilliant and very talented man, a very good read : I loved this book, because it told me things that I didn't know about Steven Van Zant. I have been a fan through the E Street Band and his solo career over the years, but didn't know much else about him. Watched the Sopranos and Lilyhammer which were brilliant. This book takes of Steven's love of music and the arts and should be read by everyone who is interested in music and the arts. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 17, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Ian MacDonald -- Fascinating account of a varied and eventful life... : Steve Van Zandt has a tale to tell, and he tells it well. I only got into him, and Springsteen, and latter day Gary US Bond, through Southside Johnny, a great singer and writer who gets either ignored or insulted in everyone else's accounts of their past....he should write his own version of events. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 19, 2021 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from Peter Johnson -- Enlightening in more way than one. : Don't let the first few pages put you off. These pages are the most ego-maniacal bub- James Bond. hinting later that Steve is second only to Nelson Mandela in ending Apartheid. Once you do get over his overweening ego you can enjoy some interesting anecdotes about the music industry and The Sopranos. A positive is that there is an index at the back so you can look up Springsteen and The Sopranos and avoid his political preening. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 4, 2021 )
